Thinking About Constructing a Monster Aquarium Yourself?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A detailed DIY article would be awesome, and I'm sure most members would be interested, even if they were not planning on building one. Your thread on your large outdoor tank was the clincher in me deciding I will have a monster tank soon.

I have been looking at acquiring a monster tank to house my growing monsters. Initially looked at 10x4x3, but decided bigger is better. I now want a 12x5x3.5

Quotes for this tank is way over the 10K figure - for the tank alone!!

Hence the decision to build myself. Been researching on DIY tanks, but not being much of a handyman, or having any construction experience what so ever, it is somewhat daunting.

A detailed, simple (if there is such a thing) article would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on housing an araipama, rtc, gars, aros, barramundi, and a few of the largest cichlids.

Oh, take your time with the article and write it all in one go. Some members have been posting their DIY threads for more than 6 months, and still not finished! I'll rather read it all in one go so I know what I'm in for and can plan accordingly.

Thank you in advance!!

I would also love an article on a DIY tank. Im considering building one for my room over the summer, probably in the 300-400 gal range. Thanks!

A detailed guide would be great. I haven't decided if my 750g is enough to satisfy me yet lol.
Is the pangasius in the pictures only ~28"? It looks much larger and very thick.
Thanks
KNH

That would be awsome to have an article, especially with the price that you paid, I would be intrested in reading about the materials that you used.

yes sir, that would be awesome. I think my first DIY from scratch will be about 400 gal. One day I want to build an indoor aquarium/pond. About the size of yours. In the basement (fish room with other aquariums) one side would be acrylic. The other sides would be concrete. On the first floor it would be the pond part with an aviarium around it. All south american (fish and birds) particularly from Venezuela. An aviarium would be very helpful with humidity and heat.

Cost would have to also include scuba gear!

Definitely something i would love to read. From someone with so much experience and monster fish i would definitely love to read any article you would write.

This is a great idea, and what seperates MFk from all others!! Even if many of us can never have something like that it is always a dream to own one! The operating cost, price of materials, labor ect, these are always great details that can sometimes be left out of stories like this, I like to see the damages$$$$$ so I can judge what something like this takes, I will be patiently waiting to see this!!! Nothing better on MFK than these gigantic Monster tanks!

very interested in this. I was dreaming of a large multi-sided tank with a clear divider so in each of the four quadrants I could house some thing like a fajaka, an aba aba, a lungfish, and something else huge-all in one system, just seperated.

I am also very interested in reading a write-up. I've been reading all the articles that I could find on tank building and have plans to do the building within the next year or two.
It'd be great to have another one! So PLEEEASE write another one!!
