Since my silver was brutally murdered, I have been thinking about getting a Jardini. I am fully aware of the risks involved. However, if you REALLY think it's a terrible idea, I don't care if you express that, but don't tell me I'm an idiot :)

Right now, I have some SA/CA grow-outs that I am going to join with the fish in my 125 gallon tank. I will list all the fish I have, but I'm not going to be keeping them all, just some, and the milder ones at that. All are about 1.5-2" except for the 3" Tiger Oscar and 4" Red Oscar. List: Midas/RD, "Red Terror" 2 Gold Saums, 2 "Flowerhorns". I am also going to add some "dithers" that I have in another tank that I rescued, but not because I like them (2 Blue Gouramis, Gold Gourami, 2 Giant Danios).

I want to know what size Jar you would recommend that I get and what size should the cichlids be when I introduce the Jar into the tank. I am thinking I would like to get a "calm" Jar about 8-10 inches in hopes that if it is going to go trough an aggressive spurt that it would already have done so.

I am trying to make sure I can fit a 240 Long down the steps, which I am in the process of looking for.

Thanks.

Also, if there's any other top level fish that you think would be good instead of a jar, LMK.

I want one too, but 2" fish will all be outgrown quickly with a fish that grows 1" per month. I'd say a 4" one smaller than that and the Osacrs may tear him up.

My understanding is that the agro spur last from 8' on for life not just a passing phase.

I see mass destruction in the works in this tank, IMHO. But I wish you luck as I love them too.

I just bought a 5" Jar and put him in my 240 with 2 6" P-Bass, 2 3" Festea, and a 4" Dat and some 2.5" Texas Cichlids. I have read some same about the aggression, but
it's woth a try to me. They are awsome fish. Good Luck

I haven't seen any here less than 6". I know it's not a phase. I was just hoping I could get one that was calm (after the usual start of the aggression) in hopes that it would be better-behaved than the vast majority.

Thanks. Good luck to you, also.

get a black...unless you want a 1 fish tank

its rare that it will work, but ive heard of more stories where a jar is in a community than say a fahaka for example. if your silver didnt make it dont get a black, their even more timid than silvers. a leichardti aro sounds like what would really work in your tank though.

oh i missed the part that said the silver was brutally murdered..get a jardini then let the other fish know that pay back's a mutha****a

I have a 10" Jardini in my 180 with 2 huge Green Severums, 1 Needlenose Gar, 4 Ornate Bichirs, 3 Shark Cats, and 6 Silver dollars. Also a couple marbled sailfin plecos. My Jar chases the silver dollars once and awhile, but nothing serious.

keep him well fed.

The only fish my jar will even half way tolerate is my GG. He did completely ignore my ray though. It's all trial and error.
