Thinking About Getting a Jardini (What to Do?)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok
if you are gonna have all the fish in the same tank
introduce a 4-6" jar
not too big
jars grow pretty fast
and if the jar grows with the other fish then he might learn to live with them but its a guess again
i have read on this forum where a jar living with fish for loooong time has suddenly gone psycho and killed all the fish in the tank
but then again hope for the best and good luck
and do keep an eye on the 4" oscar they try to be the bully sometimes

oh i missed the part that said the silver was brutally murdered..get a jardini then let the other fish know that pay back's a mutha****a
LOL he's getting taken up to the LFS for some store credit tomorrow :)

thanks for all the input, everyone. how large should the cichlids be before I introduce them to a jar? anyone else have a size they think would work best?

I have tried this a few times over the past 7 years, 100% unsuccesful.... on all accounts....

Just remember that just because it's a jardini, doesn't mean it's not in danger from attacks from other fish. Young jars are just as fragile as young silvers, though things change around 10".

If you are interested in a real small jar, Fish Den on 44th & Sheridan Blvd has some 2" jars for 50-60 bucks can't remember exact cost.

I should add that my Jar refuses to eat live fish. Which is a blessing if you ask me.

yeah, that's what i've heard. well, i'll either get one around 10" when my cichlids are about 8" or so (i know the gold saums won't get that big near as fast as the others) or get one of those smaller ones and grow it up in my extra 55 with them. Mr. Aqua had 3 jars of different sizes when i got my silver. two other places HAD lei's that i looked at (or so they said). i might go check them out tomorrow since it's close to my work.

so, do you think it would be better to get one of the little jars and grow it up w/ the cichlids or wait till they get bigger and get a large one. i doubt the fish that are currently in the 125 would bother a small jar, unless it was small enough to fit in their mouths, but you never know. the cichs might, though.

I would probably go with the 4 or 5 incher... I'm not sure on how he'll do with cichlids though... Mines fine with other fish but never tried CA/SA cichlids with him..

I think I would get a jar and raise it with nonthreatening tankmates such as tetras, etc. Plan on the jar being the only fish in the tank, sometimes they are sucsessfully kept with others but most times not. You could probably get 7-9 months outa that 55g, starting with a 2" fish.
