My love/lust for cats of the shovelnoe variety has struck yet again, an Ive never had a JURUENSE. So im thinking about getting one, is there anything special I need to know about them an keeping them?

likes a shaded place to rest they seem to prefer a large flat surface like a slate rock or something to rest on the also like a good current in there tank

Itd probally be in my 75 (with clown loaches, syno cats, clown knife an pike) until it was bout 10" then into my 120 with black aro, RCK, fire eel, an TSN x P. Niger hybrid.

Great catfish!! I got one from Alex (FishRoomPlus) about a month ago and he is doing fantastic with my dats, ctenopomas, and bichirs.

Other than what has already been mentioned, diet is key as well. As with the tig cats, you don't want to over feed these guys or it could be bad news very quickly. I feed my guy about every 3 days or so.

Too bad I didn't know you wanted one...we could have gone in on the order considering your from MA too. :D

Very true. Mine claimed this large piece of driftwood that has a large arch underneath. He's either chilling on top of the driftwood or in the arch way...but he NEVER hides...one of my favorite thigs about him.

mine has a favorite rock to perch on. His friend the filamentosum never bothers him. He just sits there all day long waiting on food. No incredible growth though. Maybe 1" in the past month.

God...I would LOVE a filamentosum, but there is no way I could house that beast.

I've noticed that with my Juruense too...the growth rate is very slow (unlike my rtc/tsn which you can see growing if you watch very carefully :D). I guess that makes him a perfect tankmate for my smaller dats though, at least I know they won't be lunch.

What sort of feeding schedule is your Juruense on Cliff?

How difficult is it to get them off live food? I tend to keep comets an soon ghost shrimp on regular basis.

I've never given mine live. It doesn't like anything I've tried yet besides tilapia filet pieces, though. Mine doesn't hide, either. It likes to face downward w/ its ventral surface on the back glass :screwy:
