Toby, our beagle/fox terrier cross, is just over a year old, and is starting to settle down a little. He's super affectionate and loves the company of people and other dogs. Every time we take him to the park he goes mad running around with any other dog he can find, from tiny little fluffy things to great danes and rottweilers. I've always wanted another dog, and we're seriously considering getting a Hungerian Vizsla puppy, we've met several people who own this breed and Toby always gets on well with them. They seem like everything we're looking for; a little bigger than Toby, athletic, short haired, affectionate. We would be getting a b!tch, not a dog.

Anyone here have experience with the breed? Or any other suggestions?

I dont know that breed but i know beagles. I had a beagle/cocker spaniel mix. FANTASTIC dog. Beagle's are awesome dogs, im very jealous!!
Id say pick up another beagle mix. try to find the cocker mix!!

Good luck!!

They aren't very common (beagle mixes) here, these were the only ones I've seen. We liked almost everything about the beagle, except for the nose! I go mountain biking and I'm starting to take Toby with me, and want another dog that can run in the forrest for a few hours. I think a beagle would be too hard to control and would end up getting lost chasing a rabbit or something...

my cousin bred the Vizsla a long time ago..they seemed like very nice dogs to me.. most important thing is that it is a good natured puppy.. and for best results the opposite sex of the one you have now..they should do well together.. i love having two dogs.. they have unique personalitys .. no where near the same in anything.. but they get along great..good luck

yeah that is something u gotta watch with a beagle. those buggers can HUNT!!!! they are awesome for that. Thats why my grandparents had them. thats also why they have cocker spaniels. My uncles is trained to hunt rabbits for him. He catches them alive and brings them to him. He kills and eats them. yes my family is red necks, but awesome!! with my uncles and grandparents propety combined, there is 2 ponds on my grandparents land, 1 on my uncles(that is 30 feet deep) 1 on another uncles and another owns river front property

Vizslas can be super nice dogs...really owner attentive, velcro dogs :). The biggest thing I think with them is some seem to be ehh...somewhat neurotic? Haha, just make sure you socialize them really well and give lots of exercise, they can go for hours.

Nothing redneck about eating rabbit, its good!!!

Jessica I've heard that too, I think the "velcro" nature would go well with the dog we have now. I work shift work and my partner works 'normal' hours, so they aren't going to be locked up with no one home for 40+ hours a week.

And before anyone asks, here's some pics....

aww he is a cute one!!
and its not about the eatting of rabbits. its the fact the dog hunts for him. lol

i dont know if you want a smaller breed but we have a miniature schnauzer we got from a very good local breeder. incredible dog. love of my life man. sweetest, smartest, and freakin cutest dog ive ever seen. but i love my dog more than other peoples dogs. most people think that there inside dogs but mines a beast. hes actually become gun friendly and after he gets all his hair trimmed ill take him hunting or fishing. im sure hed to good with your beagle.

beagles were pure bred for countless generations specifically to hunt rabbits. a good pure bred beagle will go for any where between 7,000 and 15,000 dollars. ima redneck to and beagles are indeed cool ass dogs.
