i dont know if you want a smaller breed but

Not really, certainly don't want anything smaller than Toby, and certainly nothing with long hair. Originally I wanted a weimaraner because we had one when I was a kid, but after spending time with a couple of vizslas I was sold.

beagles were pure bred for countless generations specifically to hunt rabbits. a good pure bred beagle will go for any where between 7,000 and 15,000 dollars. ima redneck to and beagles are indeed cool ass dogs.
and damn it, those people that bred them for that are damn good at it!:headbang2

Nothing redneck about eating rabbit, its good!!!

Jessica I've heard that too, I think the "velcro" nature would go well with the dog we have now. I work shift work and my partner works 'normal' hours, so they aren't going to be locked up with no one home for 40+ hours a week.

And before anyone asks, here's some pics....

very cute pics... you can see the love between you and how well cared for he is.. get another one ... you make a good master.

Vizlsas are fantastic dogs. I've been around many of them and they've all been great. They have a lot of energy and are really smart.

If it was me I would also take a look at the local shelter dogs. There are usually many great dogs that there need a home. Puppies are a lot of work and many adult dogs in the shelter are already fixed and house broken. You could also look and see if there is a breed rescue in your area as well.

I'm all for having a second dog, just remember that there will be twice the food and twice the vet bills. I was surprised how much it added up when we got our second dog. Also dogs have a way of picking up on each other's habits and usually the bad ones.

If you are ok with that then absolutely go for it!

no experience with them....only thing I think I want to mention that may have not been said...is...

LET TOBY PICK THE DOG!!!!!! He is the one that has to live with it =p

If you are set on a breed make sure you bring the current dog with you and see how they do (I know you said he does well with other dogs... and stuff but still.. you never know. You dont want to pick that one dog where it ends up that it just may not work out.)
