Thinking about making a pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have an in ground pond and I used Firestone's pondguard pondliner. If your dog's nails can puncture it you have something other than a dog! It's a bit on the spendy side but well worth it with the 20 year gaurantee against UV degredation. and it's nice being able to build your pond in the shape you want with plant shelves etc. You may be able to find it cheaper at an LFS or pond supply store, here is a link to buy it on the web http://www.pondsupply.com/firestonepondguard.html I live in PHX AZ and it has been over 110 for the past 2 months my fish are great and healthy and my dogs go for a dip in the pond quite often with no ill effects. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info!

I want this to be perfect and I don't want to have to rebuild or add anything to it once it's finished. The puppy has his nails trimmed weekly...the problem with him having access into and out of the pond is that he also has access into and out of the house. I don't want him ruining any of my furniture or floors. He would also try and eat any fish in there as well.

I'm going to talk with a local pond builder this weekend and see if we can draw up some plans.

i have seen many "Hybrid" ponds. Ones that are in and out of the ground. Its not my cup of tea, but many people choose this style for dogs and kids. The liner will be the best bet for this. Provided enough slack, there should not be any concerns w/ stretching the liner.
