I just picked up a bunch of H. Carpintis (green texas) and Im contemplating if I should try crossing him with a king kong parrot. Im a little weary though because you dont really see anyone with "homemade" red texas. If you know someone or anyone that crossed a king kong parrot please share. Maybe I just need a little boast in confidence

heres my largest "male"

thanks but its actually a 'mexican princess chairel', even though i cant tell the difference yet.

really? lfs around usually have faded semi orange ones. these look like a deeper fuller orange-red.

Theres a lot of homemade RT out there. It's just that not many of them are "show off" worthy. Many people start on the projects, very few actually are successful in creating something nice. When people say they wanna start a RT project using a H. Carpintis x (X fish that's orange/red), I usually want to discourage them because it takes a lot of work and patience to finally get something worth while. I currently have a RT project myself, but I'm using a male RT and a female Rose Queen. I merely skipped a few generations. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

thats actually what i meant. when i first did some research i found people trying to breed them but they would stop updating right after they had fry or before the juvies could fade so i assumed it they werent getting good enough results to continue updating.

i actually read your post before when i was doing my research, sucks that the eggs were eaten. may i ask why you chose to use a rose queen? is it because the offspring are more likely to be fertile? or is fertility always an issue when crossing species?

Julie Tran has like 20 female SKKP left that would make really nice breeding females. http://flowerhornsfrombeyond.com/st...ypage_images.tpl&product_id=629&category_id=1

Personally I would say find a nice female faded Red Texas.

they do look great but for $120 not including shipping, thats too much for me. there is a local guy selling a beautiful super red texas thats already 10" and hes got a 3 red texas unfaded or fading.

Fertility is always an issue with males when crossing species. Due to the eggs being eaten, I wasn't able to find out if my male was fertile or not so I have to wait until the next spawn. The reason I chose a RQ was because a lot of people use Blood Parrots/KKP's to cross their H. Carpintis with and it throws out this very awkward/unnatural face. My male RT has the awkward face as well(It's Mother was a SRT that was made through KKP X Carpintis and the dad was a H. Carpintis). I was hoping that the RQ I picked up would produce some fry that would correct that. I highly doubt it will work to my favor, but it never hurts to try. I'm a huge fan of stocky/compact bodied FH's(Not shortbodies), so I'm hoping that the RQ's genetics will produce fry that have bigger fins and are little thicker bodied.

As for the local guy selling that female RT, I would ask for video proof/pictures of eggs. $150 seems a bit.. cheap to me for a proven female that looks as good as that.
