Well I've got an empty 3 footer out the back that would fit in my stand nicely and I really need more filtration for my 5 foot oscar tank. What I want to know is can you make a sump without drilling holes in my aquarium?

Also is there any good plans on the net with detailed diagrams because I cant find any:(

Ive been reading this thread
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15733
would this be the best way of doing it?

Absolutely...

Light reading...

Is this the sort of this your wanting to do?

Keep us posted.

Dr Joe

yes. thanks for the links!!!:)

I've been reading for about two hours and now I finally get how the overflow works and the return pump work.

From what I read I understand that if I use 1" pvc for the overflow and a decent return pump I shouldnt have any overflow, right?

Glad to hear your catching on so quickly.

Right...And you can put a "T" in the return (at the pump) and a ball valve off of the "T" to by-pass some of the return water to the sump if you have to much return.

If you have any questions someone hear should be able to answer and advise you. (possibly one of your neighbors)

Good luck and keep us posted,

thanks for the help.

At first i looked at a sump and thought you would need a genious to work out all that piping but the more I read the simpler it sounds:)

I'll definitely keep you guys posted.

Alright I started making sump tank today im almost finshed just need to get the egg crate stuff and the drilled trickle part!!!

I have a few more questions, What powered filter would I need for a tank that holds roughly 110 gallons. Also you know the part after the wet/dry box can you keep media in there too? diagram below just incase you dont know what im rambling on about.

You can, either drop the divider a little or raise the other media up so 1/3rd is out of water.

Don't forget to post pix,
