Welcome Kramer, I think you're the dude from plecofan? :P Find someone who sells reefoctopus products and get them to order you a OB-300S HOB skimmer.... or if you live in sydney I can arrange something!

Nah you got the wrong dude.

Antway I made great progress today
  • bought 1" PVC piping and then cut all the bits to size for the overflow(also got 2 of those ball valves).
  • bought and fitted the egg crate stuff.
  • bought some filter padding kinda stuff for the drip tray.
  • modified tank stand so I could get the pipes to the sump and so the weight from the sump isnt on the stand itself.
  • put the sump into the stand.
All I have to do now is let the silicone cure, buy some bio balls, PVC cement for the overflow and a pump. oh yeah and drill the holes in some perspex for the drip tray.

Should have it up and running by next weekend:headbang2

no pictures yet because I dont have a cam with me at the moment:(.

Anyone know what kind of pump I would need for my tank which holds roughly 110 gallons or 430 litres?
The pump would have to push water up about 4'

Find a pump that will give you the turnover rate (amount of tank x X) you want at 4ft. Turnover depends on stocking levels 3 times to 6 times turnover rate is average.

Alright made the drilled drip tray today and bought some PVC cement and primer they both say approved for portable water which means they are fish tank safe, right?

All I need now is some bio balls and a pump:D

I got some pics but there pretty dodgy.

It's pretty hard to make out but the actual sump itself doesnt rest on the stand at all but on bricks that are on the ground, I did it like that because I dont trust my stand with too much weight on it.

Cant wait to get this thing going:drool:

Potable = safe

Nice rug :D

I won't leave the towel under there, if it gets wet it could get moldy

Use a piece of styrofoam insulation or felt cut to fit the contact area of the bricks.

Great job.

Oh yeah didnt think about that, well we have plenty of foam at work so that's easy fixed.

Yeah the rugs dope:cool:

Thanks.:)
Not the most cleanest job but it's going to do the job(hopefully)

Got a pump todat and some bioballs(didnt get enough though:ROFL:) the pump cycles my tank 5 times an hour:headbang2

Anyway the DIY overflow works great I simulated a power cut and it started siphon again with no problems.

The only thing I dont like about my Wet/Dry is that it makes my room sound like niagra falls.

Turn your radio up!!! No louder!!!!!

Post some pics of it running. There are a few options to quiet it down but without seeing it, it's hard to gues what your dealing with. Most importantly is the distance water is falling. If your media is in contact with the sump water and the drip plate this helps alot. Then you have to look at the water delivery system and how much niose is it making. If the water is pouring straight down on the drip plate you need to divert it some how so it makes a smooth transition onto the drip plate. Once the splash is under control they are not that loud.
