Thinking About Octapus...what kind?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have heard over and over again that the best octopus for the home aquarium is the bimac, octopus bimaclodes.

As far as easy and low maintenance, as long as you have an octopus, that's not going to happen.

I would recommend urchins. You have to have the water in good condition and with algae, but they are really easy and people love them, because they bumble around the tank when you least expect them to.

With urchins I would recommend clowns or cardinals, because they won't interact.

Ive been keeping an octopus for about 6 weeks now. Ive never had a SW tank before and he is doing just fine. I know six weeks isnt long but if I can do it, any one can. Im starting to question their intelligence. Ive had a damsel in a breeder trap and he still hasnt gotten in there to eat it though he could easily. He doesnt hide much any more. He does all day until I walk in the room and once he sees me he is out and about begging for food. I am now feeding him chunks of dead fish and he takes it out of my hand. Of course I caught him myself so maybe part of the reason they are hard to keep is that they dont ship well.
