Thinking about switching to sand and using pool fileter sand. Any advice on this?

does anyone know if something like a panty hose would work to slip over the intake for now until I can get to a fish store to pick up some sponges?
I recently went to all pool filter sand in my tanks and would never go back...Its cheap, heavy enough not to get sucked into your vacuum even when stirred around, and it looks awesome. My cichlids love it and dig for hours in it. If you have hob filters either use the sponge prefilter or keep extra impellers on hand..I only have that problem in my oscar tank because they kick up more sand. easy to maintain and looks way better than rocks IMO
I just added about 70 or 80 pounds of the pool filter sand to my 110 gallon tank and it looks awesome I wouldn't go to anything else again. It's a tedious project if you already have the tank set up with fish in it but in the end it's worth it. It completely changes the look of a tank. I think if you're bored with the look of a tank and want to do a simple cheap way to change your tank around and have a couple hours then deffinately buy some pool filter sand and do it.
The only problem i can see with using pantyhose is that the netting might be a little too fine and get clogged up real quick... coz i remember when i was still breeding my Cherry Red Shrimp i used panty hose on a HOB filter, and by the next morning (or sometimes a few hours) i would have to clean it coz it would get clogged and block the flow...

I realize i'm almost 12 hours too late on this but knifefishes are passive electric because of the dark murky water in which they inhabit in the wild. i recently moved a tank and the water was quite murky and didn't wait for it to completely settle out and my 2 BGKs and 2 ABKs were fine, along with my filter.
