Thinking about wolves in my 140 gallon....

Hi guys thank you for all comments.

I think that everyone agrees that the key-factor is the size of the other fishes. Actually I can put a predator fish that will outgrow my other fishes in less than 6 month. I think that I will wait until all the kudas attain a minimun of 8 inches to put a 4-5 inches hoplias. Probably this will not happen soon because grow rates of acestrorhynchus don seems to be as fast as hoplias....so I have 2 options right now:

1- Wait for the confluence of the factors to put a real hoplias.
2- Try to be happy with an Erythrinus erythrinus

....my only frustration about red wolves is the fact they don't have...how can I say....a monster face...as the other hoplias!

Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus are pretty rare here, and even though they're aggressive in packs imo you should be ok with one. They're mainly aggressive to conspecifics so if you stick to one Hoplerythrinus you should be fine.

Hi isde...here I can find for 10 U$, it isn't so common because brazilians aquarists don't like wolf fish...theylove gars, knifefishes, dats and polys and don't pay attention to wolves, kudas, sabbertooth and others. "The grass of the neighbor is always greener than ours"
I saw some bad experiences with hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus and non-agressive fishes. Body and fins damaged in fishes much larger than goldens! I saw a pack of goldens killing a H. lacerdae! I really don't want that kind of trouble in my peaceful tank. I'm pretty sure that my hujeta can't tolerate an agressive golden wolf disputing the top of the water... and to be honest still has the fact that golden wolves don't have monster face too! :-).
So pound per pound (goldens vs reds)....to me.. reds hands down!
