So i want to get a buddy for my Oscar and was wondering if a flowerhorn would be a good match ?

My Oscar is about 9-10inches very calm and mellow. So if you have any other options let me know thanks.

Unless your tank is 125+ gallons I don't see it working out.. unless you have a divider, but that defeats the purpose of getting a buddy for your fish lol.

My tank is a 125 gal but i just wanted to if it could happen i just love the way FH look but if it cant work what other fish can i put in with him that are colorful.

Define colorful lol. Some people have different definitions for colorful when it comes to fish.

Anyway, you could try Syspillum, They're pretty colorful or EBJD's. Other than that, theres not many color SA cichlids.

It varies, usually a 200+ gallon will be fine.Since yours is very mellow,I can see your oscar getting killed by a flowerhorn.Mine isn't as mellow, since mine already beat up a Jaguar and 2 Oscars already. You could if you wanted too, have in the 125 gallon tank set up a texas, blood parrot, jack dempsey, green terror, possible a jaguar, but like I said mine beat the crap out of the jaguar I use to have.If you want coloroful, with no personality and are skittish,go with a couple of african cichlids, but once again your oscar may not like them at all, that is why I am not allowed to get a frontosa, that I would love to get.

Ok so we know the tank size. Next important question is "Has this Oscar always been by himself?" If you answer yes to this question putting any fish in with him could be a big problem. Even if your oscar is mellow, cichlids that never have had tank mates or have been alone for months or years can have big issues with new fish being put in their environment.
