Red hooks, I was down at the LFS with my daughter today looking at the all the pretty fishies and the red hooks were in with some needle gars and they were schooling and I thought it looked awsome! Anyone else like these? Anyone keep these? I checked their requirements out quickly, but was wondering what their temperment is like and how they would be with other fish. I am still hoping to get an aro and stingrays. I really liked the way the hooks were schooling they are a nice size and in a large tank I think they are small enough to blend in yet big enough to see from across the room.

I love redhooks. My cousin has some regualr silver dollars and they are soo cool. I know how his act isn't how thet normally act but they are awsome. They will swim right up to his hand when he puts it in the tank and swim between his fingers and lets him pet them. And they grew really fast. I would get some.

i have a school of large redhooks (6 of them) they are cool when they get bigger.. but they are alittle skittish they knock the theaters off of the glass and the intakes off of the filters but they are cool you need a bigger tank to house a school of them for life... mine are in my 110 but will be going into my SA biotope with my silver aro and rays and a few larger cichlids.... my redhooks are about 7" long and about 5" tall

They freaked out in my 220 gal every time I walked by ... although pretty fish, I did not enjoy keeping them as a pet due to their skittishness. Seriously, I recommend against getting them if you cannot offer a pond or a tank bigger than mine.

yea i have some too...and they are very skittish. when i turn on the lights, walk by them or any sort of movement around them they will start going crazy...i dont really like them. i wouldnt get them again either

I like them, and i was starting to get interesting in grabbing a few... whats the recommendation as groups are to be concerned? not a trio and not to be single right? so 4 babies at around 2-3" would be sweet.

If you can keep them at all depends on what size tank you have. They are schooling fish

I remember us having that conversation in a previous thread. Let's pick it up again: How big are yours? Mine started to get really badly skittisch when they reached 6''.

Most times if you put a school of smaller fish in the tank with them such as danios they will calm down and not be as skittish. I would try that. It is called the "dither strategy". It makes the larger fish feel more comforitable with dumber little fish that always swim around. The trick is to get fish that aren't too large but aren't small enough to get eaten rite away. Inevitably some will probably get eaten, but such is life.
