Thinking of getting a tarantula.....need your advice!!!

Rose hairs are fine starters.Dont think because they are cheaper though it makes them good starters,they are just hardier and can handle ups and downs in their environment.The one I had was cool,I held it a few times but once I took a branch to get her onto and she bit the hell out of it hard and fast so dont expect all rose hairs to be teddy bears.Red knees are great too,but 300 sounds high,it must be a big female.Sexing is best done by checking its shed body.Once it molts you can check the organs inside the old shed.Check around for red knees for a better price.Only thing with them is they grow very slow.Another great on and I think much more to play with is the pink toe.They like a taller cage and higher humidity but thats it.Heck thir are so many and with all diferent atitudes it will blow your mind.Good luck and if you get the rose hair,make certain you listen to experienced ppl for the care because lots of rosies are kept wrong.They like it much drier than once believed.Mine thrived from dry coco fiber substrate misted all over once a week and a small dish of water filled once a week or so.A fake cacti on its side and a rock in the corner with a ditch I dug in the corner for her since she wouldnt dig herself,she would chill in it though.Anyways,good luck,their are several Ts that would be fine to start but I think you made your mind already so good luck.Go to the site reptech listed.All the T sites are good but if you want one like MFK then that one is the best I think.

just buy one,lol,the hobby needs the support and the less we take wild animals the better,it could be a male roaming to find a femal,then they would mate,have a cigeret,make a bunch of babies for the future and some for food that other animals rely on.I caught one several years ago and was going to keep it but then I looked around and thought damn its so beautifull out here,and its most likely a male cuz its wandering all over in the day so I let it go back,you can studdy it for a bit and check it out if you catch one,but I would let it go after.So yeah just buy one.I cant believe Im sick today,soar throat and plugged nose,dammit.angelo21;2505926; said:I only saw one out here but it was dead......looked like someone stepped on it
Yeah, don't harvest any more wild tarantulas, buy captive bred.

ALSO, Rosies have a rather nasty bite.. And though many will put up with being handled, it can be very stressful and they really shouldn't be messed with.
Mine hasn't left her tank (other than when I had to clean it) since she sank her fangs and claws into me.

yeah i i'll just buy one..... i figured i'd have to go out to the country to find one which would be a pain to do..... off to the lfs!!!!
