So I recently upgraded my tank and have a lot of open room for another fishy friend. I've been going around to many local stores and stumbled upon an armatus. Luckily for me I've gotten my impulse buying under control when I'm in an lfs and came home to do a little research before pulling the trigger.

My concern with getting the armatus is tank mates. I currently have a black aro, Florida gar, two marble motoros, large dat and a shoal of widebar silver dollars, and a couple large bichirs

Would I be OK with that combo if I added a payara? I'm mostly worried about coming home one day to a dismembered ray or a beat up black aro as they aren't cheap and I'm quite attached to them.

Would a tat be a better choice? Or would the armatus be OK since I can't find a red tail. Any suggestions or concerns please lmk.
Thanks

i'd say an Armatus would work well with those fish, that is assuming the Armatus is not way bigger, or way smaller than your current stock.... how big are your other fish, and how big is the Armatus?

Most of my stock is in the 12-16 inch range and the armatus was about 6-7 inches

i'd say your pushing the limit as far as the other fish being very large and thus intimidating the Armatus, however thats better than the Armatus being bigger than everyone.... i'd say you should be ok, just make sure the aro doesnt beat up, or eat the Armatus... i'd also say your going to need a large tank, but since you have an Aro i assume you know this, like a 8x3 foor print at the least

Yea I doubt the aro will try to eat the armatus as there are some smaller fish in the tank right now that don't get bothered at all by anybody. If I got an armatus they would be moved though

the large dat or the aro might bully the armatus.. I might grow the armatus out in a seperate tank first.

Yea there's plenty of current in the tank I'm running several large pumps. What's a decent price for a 7" armatus? Since I almost never see them for sale in my area I don't know what they go for and if I'm paying too much.

This store is asking 299 I think. It sounded high to me. In that case maybe I should just order one from my usual lfs cuz I know they won't rob me. But if Im Ordering would it be better to go with a tat instead or maybe a school of tats?
