Somewhere lost
What is slow growing and would survive 6 months - a year in a 100gl. Maybe a 120. But not 100% if I am getting one yet. We are going to build a pond so it would have to be a NY native. Any ideas? The filtration is a 110 filter and a 75 filter, don't know the names off the top of my head. The tank is 18" wide. Temp maxes out at 60 degrees.

Grass or redfin pickerel, sunfish, perch, shiners, dace, darters, madtoms, chubs, rockbass, any of these will do.

you could probably have 4-5 yellow perch in a 100 gallon (they do get up to 10inches, i've caught a few that were 15") and they live very long. so far they are my favorite native fish i've kept. they look very amazing and have lots of energy.

Could I stock it with a blackspotted sunfish and Pumpkinseed sunfish? Maybe a yellow perch? I will get them all small if I can.

Those should be fine.

Whats the max temp for natives to live long healthy lives? sorry to derail your thread OP...i've always wanted natives myself..especiallly sunfish/bluegills..

It is fine, I don't know exactly the max temp so if someone knows it would be good info to figure out. I want this thread to help learn about natives also so if anyone has a question they can ask. I don't mind.

i've read that 21-24c is great for yellow perch. i've never kept alot of american species, but i keep my minnow species and 2 yellow perch at room temperature. think the tank is a cool 60f right now.

They can handle temps up to 78 to 80 degrees for short times. But ideally 70 to 74 would be a comfortable max temp. Some species need cooler temps such as trout ,salmon, darters and sculpins. Darters can handle 70 to 75 degrees but need high dissolved oxygen.
