Thinking of going native

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is fine, I don't know exactly the max temp so if someone knows it would be good info to figure out. I want this thread to help learn about natives also so if anyone has a question they can ask. I don't mind.
Thank you..

Without knowing the the extent of the filtration I would say a couple Pumpkinseeds or Bluegill and a good sized crayfish. With good filtration you could overstock the sunfish and add a bullhead instead of a Cray. Lots of live plants and driftwood would make it closer to a native environment as well. Bluegill and pumkinseeds have a great personality and are my favorite for aquariums.

Filtration is a penguin bio wheel for up to 75gls and a aqua clear 110. I am not completely sure on what I want for the tank yet. I want a small shoal of fish really, with quite a bit of color. I planned on tiling the bottom and putting a driftwood in there and maybe building a cave with rocks(will use silicone to hold them together probably I do know to use aquarium safe also).

I am thinking of a pumpkinseed, a grass Pickerel, and a yellow perch. Would they be able to get along together? They will be the only fish in the tank. I should be getting them in a week or 2. I know a site to get the pumpkinseed and pickerel. Does anyone know a site to get the perch?

You might want another perch and 2+ pumpkinseeds in there. I think there might be some aggression, so you might want more fish to keep aggression levels low. I'm not sure if there will be any, and please correct me if i'm wrong.
