I am thinking the unthinkable about sinking the unsinkable... Try saying that 50 times. When finished answer me this:

I've had a large piece of driftwood ( a trunk with roots section) soaking fully submerged in one of my tanks for over a year now, and the bastard is still not showing any signs of settling down! I know what you're thinking, but the piece is way to large to be boiled. What are the chances for it to NEVER become waterlogged?

How about putting the piece in a 55 gallon drum or big metal washtub with water and building a fire underneath? I mean, it could take years for a large piece of wood to become fully waterlogged, decades even. The boiling will open up the pores of the wood, allowing them to soak up water much more quickly.

I know you said it's too large to be boiled. But, how large is it actually? There's always a solution.:)

Have you thought about baking it?

Maybe more importantly is...What kind of wood is it?

Post a pic too.

Possibly drill holes from underneath or in back to help water penetrate past the outer layers.

No I have not. Wouldn't it burn in the oven?

Not if you set it on the lowest temperature you can (like 200 degrees if your oven goes that low) and keep it as far away from the burner as possible and keep a close eye on it.

I'd rather try to boil it in a big barrel or washtub before I pissed my wife off by trying to bake some stinky driftwood. Don't ask me how I know, lol.

Ok, ok, I was refinishing guns with a bake on type finish, lol. But the resulting anger was much the same as if I'd baked a piece of stinky driftwood. :D

Sylicone the bottom to a piece of marble floor tile. I do that with my Hydro5 sponge filters.

You could also buy a piece of slater rock or 2 and attach it with a few stainless steel screws.
