I'd rather try to boil it in a big barrel or washtub before I pissed my wife off by trying to bake some stinky driftwood. Don't ask me how I know, lol.

Just tell her its beef jerky.

Try leaving it out in the sun for along time... month... this will dry it out alot... i do this to most of my fireplace food.... and when i sock it for smoking it sinks fast.

The large piece of driftwood I have took about 3 months to get water logged. I kept it in my 96 Quart cooler filled with Hot water an every few days I drained an refilled with more Hot water.

Not sure if thisll help, but it might if you have a large enough container.

Ok, so today I found a solution (or so I thought). I managed to locate a HUGE bucket made of enamel covered galvanized steel - just like an old tea kettle. It even said that its safe to be placed over an open flame on the bottom! I was able to submerge roughly 3/4 of the wood piece (the roots are too wide and thus were left sticking out) and fill the bucket with approximately 5 gallons of water.

Unfortunately after "cooking" in this fashion for 2 hours, the damned thing still floated just as it did before when I tested it in teh bathtub :irked: While I see absolutely no change in boyancy, I'll try boiling it again tomorrow for a few more hours. If this doesn't work, I'll offer it for free to anyone who lives close by to pick up in person and is looking for a challenge of sinking the unsinkable

Your location isn't listed and I weight mine down with rocks. Said it would take six weeks and its' still floating..I dunno...three monthes later?

I have had a piece of driftwood pinned down by a large rock for almost a year now and it still wants to float. I gave up trying...hoping that one of these days it will just stay down. I'll have to watch this, just to see if you can get anything to work.

tie it to some cinderblocks, throw it in a pond, and come back in three months.

I think the main problem with this piece of wood is that its just so large, not all the wood is getting wet enough to let the entire thing submerge. Personally I think by now I would expoxy it to the bottom of the tank and say the hell with it.
