not trying to bash his thread ;). He's not even selling it, just posting pics of expensive fish. I like rare fish, but I think there is a cutoff between rarity and actual beauty. I am sure those are rare, but I would rather pay that money for a beautiful, albeit less rare fish :)

Did you bother to look up what these fish look like at adult size? I think, perhaps, you'd change your stance regarding beauty and this fish. Then again, beauty - like taste - is in the eye of the beholder ...

Really, who has that much money to spend on a fish? I mean, it's a great fish and all, but you'd have to be a hardcore-fish-addict-millioinaire to buy that.

you'd be surprised. just like people are willing to pay thousands for an hoplias aimara :) beauty is sure in the eye of the owner :)

it was the first thing i did ;)
they are nice for barbs, but like I said, it doesn't justify the price for me. I am not saying they are not worth that to someone else. Plus, for barbs you want a school. Imagine trying to get a decent school of those guys :bling:

1 word: neo ;)

I just saw some pics of larger specimens on google images, and i have to say they are nice looking fish - not incredibly colorful, but i like the looks. However, apparently they get 2 feet long, and at $3k, i do not see any in my future

the thing is that most of you guys are missing the point here. the larger specimens you see are all of probarbus julienni, nice, rare, but not like this one. the probarbus labiaminora does not have any photos of them on the internet period of live specimens, and I don't even know if it will look that nice. but it is very rare!

the prices you see are in Japan, but people generally are willing to pay much more for nice fish there as well. its just a way of life. they have smaller land space than we we, so they don't spend millions on their home, yacht, and suv., but they spend more on hobbies like fish, pets, and action figures.

Ever wonder why Crenicichla tigrina never appears in the US? It's because the Far East (specifically Japanese) hobbyists ARE WILLING to pay top dollar for rarity. I don't have $3900 to get a fish (well, without my wife's permission :irked:) but I do think this Probarbus would qualify as money well spent. Asian aros can be bought all across SE Asia, but labeaminor is a once-in-a-lifetime fish (unless you happen to regularly go fishing in the upper Mekong, something few people outside of subsistence fishermen get the chance to do). The only pictures of this fish - short of the ones posted at the beginning of the thread - that can be found are line & ink drawings made by the describers. So you can imagine how exciting this is ...

More pics forthcoming, hopefully?

$3,900 is that for a lifetime supply or just one fish?

I could get 2 really nice Super Reds for that much and probly get change back...
