My parents both came home from the hospital on Christmas day. It was the best Christmas present we could have had. We are very very lucky to still have my parents. Their car was airborne at least 60 feet before overturning multiple times and coming to rest against the only tree at the river's edge, 30 feet below the road. They were trapped in the car upside-down for over an hour before rescuers were able to stabilize the car and get them out. The back end of the car was in the river. My little mother had three broken ribs and a broken left thumb. My father was banged around and still gets light-headed when he initially stands up. The car behind them rounded a corner and noticed my parent's car had disappeared. Fortunately, they stopped and investigated, or my parents may not have been found in time...
In my journey through illness I realized how very blessed and fortunate I was. Everywhere I turned, there were people worse off than I was. I met terminally ill people fighting for their lives with great dignity and courage. In the overall scheme of things, my problem was a small one (although it was monumental at the time). I couldn't feel sorry for myself, God had blessed me too much!
