ahh bugger. that sucks man. how had they been interacting proir to this?

Like a normal pair. Side by side swimming, her nipping at him just a little bit. The usual stuff. This was up until yesterday.

I snapped a few pics of her demise and placed her in the freezer so she didn't have to suffer too badly. :(

damn. sorry to hear mate. i know how dishearting it can be. if you do decide to try again in the future you may just have to leave them devided the whole time...

Sorry to hear about your female getting ripped up. I lost one of my female dovii on Wednesday morning. Her boyfriend just lost it at some point Tuesday night and decided to pound on her. Tuesday was a new moon. A good number of my fish were acting up that day. Jags spawning left and right. Wolf cichlids fighting like freaks. This pair of dovii had a good bond and spawned once, but you never can tell when the male might snap and go off the deep end. Good luck with everything.

Not really, parachromis form close bonds with their mate. But they need to be bonded.

I believe is guys had laid eggs but never had wigglers, they had not bonded.

Where did you hear dovi typically kill their mates?

Nah I didn't get any wigglers but they were bonded. They both did their part but it's not often they get it right on their first try. I was actually expecting eggs soon, not a dead female.. :irked:
