either way lets get this back on track of saving the P forum.

I do believe that cepon3 is going to try to contact GR8 soon about how and if we can setup a photo contest for the P forum with the winner going to the POTM contest. So we can cee if a sweet P picture can win for a change and maybe in the process get Ps a little more respect (for lack of a better word).

Currently there are photo contest run by members in the SA/CA forum. Just start a thread for people to post their photos, with a deadline. Once the deadline has passed copy the photos into and new thread with a poll. When you have a winner then send it to GR8.

ok ok plz no more my fish will eat you your fish will eat me . I apologize for bringing that up. back t the topic at hand. what can be done to get the P forum more trafficed.

Along with a photo contest. I think we need to look at other things. like doing a revemp of the stickies. A new P legallity thread. updated P speciecs thread w/pics for ez ID (juvi and adult) A new P husbandry thread which would include basic tank, feeding, lighting, and decor along with any other helpfull tips for P keeping.

Maybe even a petition for an extra mod. I know wyldfya is allways swamped and he shouldn't dislike the help. with the extra mod we can watch the people who crap on others for setting up there tanks wrong b/c they didn't know any better and the like.

I think that should bring more people in if nothing else just to look at the new format of our forum page.

Great Idea. I barely ever see the cichlid boards

heres the thing about piranhas IMO

my xingu is aggro as ****. if any hands go near his tank he is there like a bullet trying to attack and bite. yes when i put my hand in to do cleaning etc... he doesnt try to bite BUT if piranhas were aggressive like doviis etc then people would not be able to keep them in a home aquarium for the hobby, coz altho a bite from a dovii or other aggro cichlid can be pretty painfull it is NOTHING compared to being bit by a rhom or other large piranha. just like that lad who got a nip off his 10" rhom when it flipped out of the net, he required about 30 stitches to sort it out. so i am glad they dont try to attack when my hand is in the tank otherwise i would have no fingers left. piranha teeth are disigned to take 100% flesh with a single bite, they are lethal, in the native countries the natives even cut their hair with piranha jaws the teeth are so sharp.

anyone wanting their p's to attack when hands are in the tank obviously dont value their fingers. it is also said a large rhom (17-18") can sever a mans hand at the wrist in 3 bites and 3 bites from a piranha come in about 1 second

AND YES WE SHOULD HAVE A MONTHLY PICTURE CONTEST

i wear a neoprene glove when moving stuff inside my devils tank. his territory extends 2ft outside his tank in every direction. my friend had a piranha, and it was very large boreing fish that sat there. you could throw food in and it wouldnt even eat while you were in the room.

No offence but lets say this if Ps are o wussy you can come to my place and reach your hand in the bottom of my tank. don't ask whats in it or how many. If Ps are wussy fish you'll have no problem doing that. Heck i'll even throw in some food 6 hours before you do so my fish are feed.

Bet you wouldn't do it.

(no offence just making a point)

i didn't mean any offence either.. i just mean alot more people are getting red bellies (common-place meaning any average yokel could get one if he wanted), keeping them either singly or in a very small group and in a way too small tnak, and being like "WTF? i payed for a bloodbath, where is it?!"
word-of-mouth goes around and people start thinking things.. the same thing happened to villianize P's, sharks and a lot of other animals, understandable that it could work the other way

This was the case with mine till they got used tothe tank and I figured out a good lighting setup (non if I can help it) They are in all acounts for the most part a boring fish other then when they eat. But most of us who keep them don't care so much.

yes alot are boring, but you do get the odd one that is hyper aggressive. my xingu is deffo getting that way, he attacks my gf if she goes anywhere near the tank. and he would make short work of a neoprene glove... try a chainmail glove that would be the only thing to protect you from a piranha bite

of course its like that though.. like i said luck of the draw.. and just like rontherhom said.. neoprene gloves are gunna last you two seconds in my tank.. as well as your fish : )..

i just started the new PiranhaPOTM.. so get posting with your best picture !!! i am alson in the works of redoing the stickies.. as well as coming up with new ones.. i will be using member photos for identification over images found on the web.. so if you got a pic of your fish and some decription of tank and waterquality.. shoot me a pm with the info.. ill be more then happy to use any. and you will get credit for the photos and info in the post.. thanks
