This has been bugging me for a while.

Bill ...... you are making assumptions, again. I just used ventilation as an example. Medical distress doesn't mean that animal shouldn't be moved.

While there is always two sides to every story, this certainly places Wayne in some very bad company.

After reading this thread and others. Looks like this pet store owner is guilty. I searched the reptile forums and there was quite a few complaints on how he takes care of his reptiles including throwing a bearded dragon in a pizza box with a broken femur ( spelling ) and very sickly only for homeless people to find it still alive in the pizza box turning it in. So if you wonder why he has been charged its not because some random animal rights group is picking on him. The evidence is quite clear. Reptile owners are not ones to mess with especially when it comes to proper care of their pets. I spent 3 hours of my time researching to find this . Its quite sad actually . Especially for all of these pets he seems to throw out in the alley to fend for themselves.

That just horrible...smfh

I doubt that Wayne would ever toss a reptile out in the alley in a pizza box. Not sure where that info came from.

In fact, at this stage I think I will remove myself from this discussion.

I believe a lot of gossip sterted once charges were laid and I wonder if some of thepeople commenting have ever been to the store. Face book and the like spread rumors like wildfire. In this day and age an animal abuse story can ruin a person. The owner would have been better off to kill someone he would still have respect. The poor man has probably recieved death threats buy now and those people should also be charged. It is funny how no one has commented on the good comments about the store.
I read the comment made of finding a lizard in a pizza box and how you don't mess with reptile owners. A lot of the wacko's my family dealt with were reptile owners not saying all reptile owners are AR's but that comment sounds that way. Surely if that had been what led to this it would have made the news.
The HS is claiming because he was selling these animals he is an expert on them. That is a pretty bold statement to make. If I have a shoe store I am not an expert on all shoes. But I would bring in shoes customers ask for to keep them happy and attract more customers.
I would not want to be a pet store if some one reported me on fish delivery day. As I have been in another well known pet store in Calgary when they were recieving their fish. That would not look good to some people and in fact could lead to charges if the officer so desired. As I have said before maybe it is time somepne else looks after the animal protection act. The people who give these groups like the HS and SPCA had better take a lot closer look at what these groups stand for.

i guess everyone has their own opinions. Ive never personally been to this store because I am not from Alberta. This thread will keep going on and on. everyone has different opinions and different answers . Interesting read though ! I will stick with my local LFS .

Would others be willing to find out what the position statement of their city or states HS or SPCA is? It may come as a surprise to you how they actually feel about the animal business.

Hello Wild bill; I tried a few times to come up with my state (Tennessee, USA) animal rights groups goals. Here are some links. It is not clear that all the links are specific to TN, but some are. The last link is for sure.
I did take notice of some of the humane society goals. One in particular would have gotten me back when I was teaching biology. I use to put together a setup in which zebra danio eggs were laid. I then over a period of several days would have the students view the eggs as they went thru stages of development, from fresh laid egg thru early fry. Even though most eggs and fry were handled in a way such that most were allowed to survive and have the opportunity to become mature fish, some were lost. From what I read in one of the links, such classroom use of fish is to be stopped under the AR goals.
I also took some interest in the part about TN law (the last link) in which members of humane groups may enter a person’s property seize their animals and /or make an arrest. Perhaps I misread that statute?
One thing that struck me was a reference from one of the other links to a “humane society” being a wealthy lobby group with only a small capacity to care for animals. Perhaps I misread that as well?
I will stipulate that I only did a quick read thru of the links thus far, so may not have a full understanding. I welcome constructive criticism.
Bill; I hope this is the sort of thing you had in mind.

Wow, I'm guessing store owner accidently insulted a high seated member or didn't pay some kind of secret fee. Hope it works out.

Thank you skjl47 that is what I was asking I think others will find similar results. It almost sets you on your heels when you find out what these groups are really asking for. Or worse yet already have the power to do.
I haveen't read the links yet just wanted to thank you for taking the time. Others should know about this as well but things like this the media doesn't like to report.
mrbluedream not sure that it went that far but I do know these groups don't like it if you stand up to them. The AR groups then join in and distort every possible thing they can.
One thing my family learned over the years is that even though it is a crime to make a false report. The animal protection agencies will not prosecute people for it. So what is the owner or person the false complaint supposed to do.

Wow I wish you would have posted thttp://www.ncraoa.com/AR_VS_AW.html.his a while ago skjl47.
I don't know where you found this link but it sure tells the truth about AR.
