Are these self-priming & safe like the DIY PVC overflows?

No such thing as a self-priming overflow. They will however, retain their siphon should power go out or the pump stop running.

Thats what I needed to know. Thanks!

its useable i have one it dosent make me exceptionally happy but it works.
the noise is mild i shoved a bio ball in the back of it to scilence the bubbleing.
id say u get wut u pay for on this item

Nice price, for sure.
The downside of this style overflow is the need of an outside suction source to keep air from killing the siphon.
Granted, they do look better than a couple of “U” tubes going from skimmer to overflow, but it`s construction makes the use of an aqua-lifter, or powerhead a must for dry floors.

I think the U tube designed ones are more reliable as they don't require a pump to keep the siphon going. I have both and I have never had to restart my U tube one, while on the other hand if the pump goes out on the other one (and it does) I get left with a wet carpet.
