I think the U tube designed ones are more reliable as they don't require a pump to keep the siphon going. I have both and I have never had to restart my U tube one, while on the other hand if the pump goes out on the other one (and it does) I get left with a wet carpet.

First I hate mine so much I am having my tank drilled but if the power goes out and you get a wet carpet then your sump has to much water in it and is not set up correctly.

i have one JUST like this .. and the aqua lifter is only if it was to loose siphon .. mine has never lost it after a power outage .. i have never had to worry about it .. and i would be comfortable to take the aqua lifter out and plug the hole and only use it for any air that was to build up

i dont feel that it MUST be there to keep siphon

How do you like it? Is it quiet? I have the overflow that came with my E-Shopps wet/dry and it's fairly loud. I was thinking about getting the model you have but in the 600gph flavor.
