Yesterday I noticed what I thought at the time was a small red wound on the left side of my violet goby's belly, near the pectoral fin. I was immediately frightened not only by the idea of my fish having a wound, but of the numerous instances of people's violet gobies dying from red tumors that grow all over the body, eventually and seemingly invariably killing the fish.
I removed the driftwood, thinking this was what wounded him, and turned the lights off so that he wouldn't need a reason to hide (since I just took away his hiding place).
By today I had calmed down. I treated the tank with Melafix, and just kind of left it in the back of my mind for the rest of the day. Then a few minutes ago I was feeding all of my fish, and I wanted to get a good look at his wound, and sort of double check to make sure that it wasn't a tumor. This is when I found out that it is a tumor, or at least some kind of bulge. It seems more bulgy than yesterday, and it kind of looked like it had a little bit of slime or something on it, but I couldn't say for sure.
I'm really worried about this. Does anybody know of any way to treat this, if it is what I think it is?

Well if it is a tumor, how would I go about removing it?

I've had him for over two years, and I just got him a 210 gallon tank. I don't want him to die.

i have no clue
ive never actually cut any of my aquarium fish before
lets hope someone who knows something about this posts
sorry i couldnt help and i hope your fish will be alright

Man I'm sorry; that sucks. I wish had an answer for you but I hope it works out :(

Dude, do the basics.
Melfix,Prima fix, up the temp, and being that they're brackish fish you should already have salt.
So do the above, cross your fingers, and hope for the best.
I know this sucks but IMO this is all you can do.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the concern.

It's times like this you wish you didn't live in the Southern part of a state. I doubt there's anybody around here that would know how to remove a tumor from a fish.

I guess you're right. Thanks.

There might not be any point in removing a tumor.
Who says it's just that 1 spot.
Cancer could be running throughout his whole system.
Even in dogs and cats, or even people, you can remove a growth but you're just buying time.
It'll come back.
Do the best you can.
When he starts to look bad and stop eating, wack em' and put him out of his misery.

What SG is he in now? Mine got those pinkish tumours, because it was in FW for 8 years.
