This is frustrating guys!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dodgefreak, we are talking about keeping a 6 inch aro TEMPORARILY in a 55 gallon. Why are you mentioning a 30 inch aro in a 55? I dont quite get it.

Also, how do all the best asian aros are grown out? Not in 200 gallon tanks and by themselves i can tell you that much.

this post was started because of people keeping large aros in to small of tanks. Nobody is knocking growing out a 6" aro in a 55.. Just have a larger tank already waiting.

I think everyone has good points here, obviously this is a hot thread. Del, your intentions to encourage newer people and with all these aro tragedies lately to do the right thing is commendable. Most of us are restricted by money, but I think he's right, I I already have a pond in the works (this time around) after screwing up and losing the most beautiufl fish I could dream of, an 18: silver in a 55. He was contant, but I planned on a tank had the money and it was sold out from under me. That ws planned on for mos. Then one I bought broke, actually 2 did, so I posted ads in the paper and tried so hard and was tring to get a bigger tank when rottbo suggested the pond. I'm planning that now, I can do that. Good points from all of you, I guess my baby is OK for a while.

I came to MFK and knew nothing. I have learned almost everything I know here. For that, it takes each member contributing and uniting to help each other. For that, too, I thank you all.

This thread is pointless. I bought an aro 10" and put him in a 30g w/ a motoro ray. They were happy. When they outgrew the tank, i bought a bigger tank to accomodate them. I know, you have to do research at all, but experience is the best teacher. Who would say, if they buy the fish for the very first time, it wont die. Even the most experienced fish keepers can't guarantee that the fish would survive that long.
I have an 8" aro in a 225g and it still jumped out of the tank.

I agree. Just seeing a 2 foot aro in a 180 gallon is like watching a betta swimming in a cup.

 Agreed a 2ft + aro is cruel in a 180 gal!!!!!, good intentions but cruel, leave those beautiful fish to those with big enough tanks!!!!

c'mon, i dont think its that pointless. yeah experience is the best teacher but i still think its best that you get to know what youre gonna be doing first before you actually do it. not all people have the right insticts, sadly most are just impulse doers...this thread aint pointless:grinyes:

Del i agree with you. But the way you've been presenting your 'rants' seems almost negative and condescending.

Another example of a responsible fishkeeper that upgraded as the fish grew out. I told you Del it does happen in real life. ;) Its not an isolated incident either. But thanks for caring. ;)
