I have seen a lot of questions out there about what to feed your bass so i thought i would share how i prepare vitamin rich food at a low cost and it takes about 15 min to make enough for 3 weeks of feeding for my 3" monos.
I like to buy in bulk to cut down on cost. this bag of 8 frozen filets costs a little over $8 so not too bad
I then cut into small pieces, depending on what will fit in their mouth. For bigger fish make bigger pieces to save some time.
Next I put everything in a plastic baggy and add Vita-Chem. I previously was in the hobby of raising piranhas and this stuff is amazing. you will get amazing coloring on your fish and I feel the growth rate increases. I wasnt able to get my piranhas on pelets and I got to thinking that this stuff was better than pellets (just from my experience). I add about 20 drops into the bag then mix everything
Next flatten everything out to make it easy to break off as much as needed then place in the freezer
Finally just break some chunks and let thaw in a glass. it only takes 5min to get thawed. If you add some water the thawing process will be a little faster and BOOOM! you now have a vitamine rich food that will keep your fish looking great and more imune to disease. My bass cant get enough of this stuff
I still believe in feeding a variety of foods so I also give bloodworms, shrimp, and started them on pellets. hopefully this helps and saves you some money in the long run. Try to stay away from the pet store bought feeder fish as you will probably be looking at problems down the road with disease.
