Not trying to play devil's advocate, there isn't any real excuse for what she did, but this might come down to education. The amount of people I meet who think of fish as little more than swimming potatoes, the amount of vegetarians who eat fish because in there mind fish don't have the intelligence to suffer. At the moment there is very little agreement as to the welfare standards for fish. In her mind what she did might not be any different to killing someones favourite plant.

While there may be no excuse, it never hurts to pick the person's brain in order to hopefully find something that is shared by people who do that. By doing so you could potentially unlock more secrets of the brain.

I wasn't aware that vegetarians ate fish....that kind of goes against or defeats the purpose of the lifestyle.
It's a specific following I believe, called pescetarianism. It's not strictly vegetarian and shouldn't be treated as such.

I am aware that there are a few vegetarian offshoots though I have never heard of that one and it sounds a bit different from what was mentioned. My aunt and her husband do not consume any animal flesh or milk.....and as you might suspect,I am not a regular fixture at their dinner table.

I believe for a period of time beavers were classified as a fish as to allow Christians to have meat? Can't remember it exactly since I learned it so long ago.
