wooooow.. iv never saw this before.. i strangly like it .. but i would fully prefer a "pedigree" lol just like mother nature would want lol

Yea thanks I saw these and thought why would you take a weak gened frontosa and make the genes even worse

The only hybrid that ever really impressed me was a good ob peacock. Even at that the more I explore cichlids the less interesting hybrids are. The more I know about fish the more offensive hybrids become to me as a hobbiest. I don't hate them or cull them I just don't see value in them, line bred fish are way cooler than most hybrids and that just brings out natural color variants and patterns. The frontosa above while goofy looking is preferable in my mind to a FH.

How is breeding to create a spotted frontosa any different than, say, breeding to create a bright orange discus...or a koi colored, veil-tailed angelfish....a super red peacock...or an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey...or a double-tailed, long finned betta, etc, etc, etc.?

I might not like it, but I'm sure someone does :)

When line breeding fish, you try to enhance the best characteristics of a fish, not the worst.

i agree ... i wish they would leave the specific breeds alone... messing with genetics just for looks is so wrong in every way.

No one said it was any different from those examples and there are those who don't much care for them either and course, there are those who do.....There are enough natural frontosa variants already so I'm just curious as to why this was even considered in the first place...Greed,hoping to come up with the next big thing....As I've said earlier I suspect that this is the result of some labwork in Asia but I'd rather see their efforts spent on solving the puzzle of getting widebar and other datniodes species to breed in captivity.Something a little more meaningful and constructive and which would satisfy any greed if it exists.

And, of course, "best" is in the eye of the beholder...

It's just hypocritical to say that "fancy" fish that don't happen to appeal to you are wrong or bad (or only developed for money)...but those that you happen to like are OK.

I might happen to think that the natural browns of discus or the silvers of angelfish are incomparably beautiful. That doesn't mean that the development of the array of fancy discus or angelfish is somehow wrong or bad...
