Wow, I would make it at least 5' that way you can reach the back of the tank. I would test out some different lengths before final assembly.Egon;4189765;4189765 said:
Here's a quick list of what I used. Starting from open end going to hose.
Cleaning tube from a gravel cleaner ( my tube was 1.5" in diameter)
1.5" PVC coupling
1.5" to .75" PVC bushing with female adapter
.75" PVC male adapter
.75" PVC Pipe (longer piece)
.75" PVC Ball Valve
.75" PVC Pipe (Short piece)
.75" PVC female adapter
.75" pipe thread to female hose adapter
I used silicone to attach the gravel cleaner tube to the coupliing, and PVC cement for the rest. I used threaded adapters in a few places so you can take it apart for cleaning. The length of the main piece of PVC pipe is dependent on how long you want your stick to be. The trickiest part to find was the hose adapter, I found it at Home Depot in the same place as the clear tubing and fittings. The rest of the stuff can be found in the plumbing isle.

You really have somethng there sazhar. Congradulations on your designing and operational success. Now the question I have been waiting for . . . . . . . Will you ever patent this idea of yours? LOL.
I figure it's so easy to make, there really isn't a that much of a market for it. I would hope most large aquarium owners could throw this together with some extra pvc they have laying around. Yeah I'm thinking the same thing! I think 4 feet would be enough, I'm okay with getting my hands wet. I was going to go with a 3 foot section with a 1 foot screw attachment for extra length. That way I can use the three foot "boom stick" on all my tanks and add the extra foot for my deep tank.
Sorry, this is probably a stupid question, but what puprpose does the ball valve serve? Is that to break the siphon rather than lifting it out of the water? Or does this work the same way a Python does for refilling?
