I just dont want to have twenty threads started in a matter of a couple days, though I easily could:D . Anyways lets get some good info here
I wouldn't recommend tree monitors as a first monitor but if you're dead set on them check out the Kingsnake forums for some good info.

Varanus forums are also nice as well. I think Frank Retes browse both forums.

Tree monitors need a cage at least 6 foot tall 3 foot wide and 6 foot long if youre gonna house a pair. For a lone animal Id suggest getting another species. There really isnt a use to get a wild caught monitor for you to just keep as a pet in my opinion, specially if its a tree monitor since we dont know how many are left in the wild. Well now that my ecological rant is over, I can tell you that tree monitors are very easy to care for once theyre over that fear of human running allover the place crazy stage. But before all that is said and done you need them to get feeding and drinking daily as soon as they are in your possession. They arent like other monitors that can bounce back quickly from dehydration( just look at their tails). How I quaranteen my animals is a I get a large garbage trash can. The tall heavy duty plastic ones. I open a small square hole on the side and I attach some lexan on it for viewing purposes. I have them on a stand so the monitors are looking down on me and I can view their progress without bothering them. I throw a light fixutre on the lid and the humidity stays at about 97 % make sure you provide lots of hides in the form of cork tubes and branches. Make sure they are drinking from the daily mistings which initially should be 4-5 times a day while they are on the road to recovery. If your animal accepts f/t mice right away great! if it doesnt then i can help you with that too down the road. If youre looking to keep one animal I would however suggest keeping one of the tristis subspecies, they are very affordable and are captive bred. I keep tree monitors so I can breed them and offer them in the pet trade here once I have an established breeding group of all the species. I would hate to see them extinct because of the constant importing/exporting of these animals. If there is something I havent answered let me know.

okay....so I guess I may have to look at a pair :( . JK of course other than the extra cage requirements. Okay I'm going to list what I think that their care requirement are so plz correct me if I'm wrong (I'm going from memory and it's been a while):

85-90F basking with high 70s as ambient temp
Mist 4-5 daily??? even after aclimated? hows the volcano mister?
Hows this for a pair 4'Long 3' Wide 5' tall with a 12"-18" stand??
umm lets see definitely UVB
food: pinkies, roaches, crickets
dust with vitamins
Some nice corkbark along walls to increase surface area
lots of branches, logs, and vines
I have temp gun, and will get humidity tester
and maybe a water feature?

so how did I do? I'm still nervous about taking care of them so it's up in the air whether or not this is a posibilty. thanks for the help

you did good but up the basking area to 135 and have ambients from the high 90's down to the low 70's trust me they will use all those ranges. If youre worried about splurging too much on prasinus or macraei try looking at the black trees. Just as good looking but less expensive.

o wow really 135?? hmm coulda sworn I heard that they didnt need a high basking temp. Must have been one of the dozens of other species I dream about :D . I was thinking that about the black trees, but I feel that if I'm going to be spending all the time and money to care for them I might as well get the one I like best. Now the part that now depresses me is that if I combine the 135 basking temp of a tree monitor, with the 120F temp of the ackies, 100-110 of the beardie wow my little 10X12' rooms going to be an oven cross bred with the Sahara Desert  . well I'll just have to see. If you dont mind me asking varanio how much did you spend on the cage, and materials for your trees on average? thanks again

I have 7 arboreal tree monitor cages i spent about 175 bucks on each one. The FRP being the most expensive.
