I bought this fish about 2 month ago.

I asked my local fish store to order me in a blackbelt. This was the fish that arrived. I straight away notited that the fish had a horizontal line which i thought was strange. It is just starting to colour up with some red to the tail.

Here is pics, some clarification would be appreciated.

No that is not a black belt the belt is on the wrong way ,just kidding but that is not one Im sure someone will tell you what type of cichlid it is

it looks different from the bb iam use too it has a elongated face and the ones i have seen and owened have short stubbie head/face maby its a bb hybred not sure lets see what others think.

Yes it looked differant than any blackbelt i had seen, i was convinced they had sent me something else, I googled blackbelt and a fish similar to mine did come up which confused me again.

I ordered blackbelts from a differant supplier last month and they look like blackbelts.

I'm convinced this one is not a blackbelt but now curious as to what it is.

i have had Guttalatum and fenestratus i think it is more swaying to the guttalatum, good guess mate!!:D

it's certainly not a black belt but it's hard to say for sure what it is. it looks to be pretty decent size so I'm surprised it doesn't have any more color than it does.

Ive had most of the Paratheraps as some point or another. Its not fenny or synspilus. I dont believe its guttulatus due to the body shape and color (should be thinner). Its more than likely a 'melting pot' with some bifasciatus in it.

It's a shame that blk belts loose alot of there color as they grow. Lfs near me had three of them about 2 to 3 inches that had the colors of a fully mature jd. A couple of months went by and you could see they were loosing the color and the belt was showing more.
