i have to laugh at all the people on here who say oh it should have been saved. you would have all been the first people with your hands thrown up in the air crying if this story had a diffrent outcome such as this... 7'3 rattlesnake kills 2 year old little girl after previously being relocated. then you would have all been saying why wasnt the snake destroyed instead of being relocated. its kinda like when they relocate bears that are trouble makers and then they show back up again 2 weeks later and hurt someone and then everyone wants to know why it wasnt destroyed in the first place....the problem is there are to many tree huggers in the world today. get over it people we eat meat. meat was some form of living animal at one time. it is nature!!!!!!!! but you have no problems feeding your fish live feeder fish... isnt that cruel and mean in your eyes? WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!

its sad, i mean i understand why it was killed, but i also understand that it prob wouldnt have survived in captivity. i dont think relocating would have been enough once the story got out and people would have been hunting it.

sad whatever way u look at it x

thats a bit different, tbh all the people that appear to be 'tree huggers' prob wouldnt b feeding their fish live feeders.
i think its the fact that someone who claims to b an excellent catcher did it for the fame and glory and no other option was considered.
some people just jump guns.

If Moral responsibility for encroaching on the natural habitat of an animal isn't enough of a reason not to kill it. Then how about we consider the fact that the Eastern Diamondback is listed as Threatened Species, and Fla Law states:

Endangered and Threatened Species: No person shall kill or attempt to kill any endangered species. No person shall capture, molest, possess, sell or offer for sale any endangered or threatened species except by special permit from the FWC executive director.

Mike

so is it ok to molest one that isn't on the endangered list?

i agree

for me, i got little ones so, if i saw a rattle snake in my backyard, my first instinct wouldn't be to call anybody to come get it

my first instinct would be to kill it. same way i react when i see a black widow

my only concern would be that the snake may be long gone before anyone shows up

for us here, gopher snake or king snake i'm cool with, but rattle snake? i don't know,......

i'm glad some people share the same opinion as me, it was an uphill battle all weekend. For the record, i feel bad for large gators being destroyed but i understand WHY they do it. i'm also annoyed when a wild cat (or a bear for that matter) is killed just because it's been termed a man eater after it attacks a human (they're just doing what's natural)

regardless of what the law says or weither there's capable handlers around, do you really think a 7+ foot rattler or 12+ python won't make it's way back to residental areas? keep in mind that it has no natural enemies once they reach these impressive size.

If I, who rarely goes Herping anymore mind you, have the equipment to have safely removed this snake and relocated it, I dont understand why this 'pro' wasn't ready to do the same. 'Too many people around' argument was rendered moot the moment he subdued the snake. Id like to say 'I dont get it'...but I do...the guy wanted to be Mr. Snake killer on TV.

I have a family, and would not want any snake on or near my property that could hurt them, but Im not ignorant enough to kill on the spot If there are other options.
