Hello! I have a 125 gallon tank that I kept a huge RTcatfish in over the last year and a half! Over that time I had problems with the water turning like a (Greeny) color. I would say that over a month and a half ago the RTC died. So what I did was empty out the water 90% out and added some stress zyme and let the tank run for maybe 3 weeks! The water was CRYSTAL clear! I added 3 baby oscars and two baby konvicts. The first week the water was PERFECT! Now the damn water has turned back to that GREENY CLOUDY. I cant take this. Im ready to throw in the towel. What is this continuing to reoccur? My fish arent lethargic. The konvicts however are scrapping off the rocks but all are eating. Like I said I cant take this. Why is this happening? Thanks!

The green water sounds like an algae bloom. What and how much are you feeding them? The flicking sounds like a parasitic infestation but could be any number of things. If it keeps reoccurring you may want to break down the tank, scrub with 1/10 bleach solution, let dry thoroughly, and start fresh. Drastic, but maybe better than dumping a bunch of chemicals in the tank.

;) What are the water parameters? What is your water source? What type of lighting. What type of substrate? Are there any plants, rocks, driftwood or decorations? "T"

WHAT TYPE OF FILTRATION R U RUNNING, R U OVERFEEDING? HOW MUCH LIGHT R U GIVING YOUR TANK, WHAT ABOUT YOUR WATER CHANGE, HOW OFTEN AND HOW MUCH?

you're clearly getting an algae bloom. is your tank by a window through which sunlight can shine on the tank? if so... that can do it. either that, or you leave the light on for FAR too long. if it IS near the window, try to keep the curtains closed half the time that way you arent exposing it to too much sunlight. obviously you also have to do regular water changes. if you are overfeeding the fish, it will create ammonia which not only kills them, but speeds up the growth of algae. if there is food lying around after feeding your fish... you fed them too much.

Breaking down the tank and starting over should be an absolute last resort. Even if you do dump a bunch of chemicals in there. You can do a bunch of water changes and use carbon to remove the meds. If meds dont work and its a worst case sell all the fish and for a week and feed the bio filter pure ammonia giving the parasites and such nothing to eat and keeping your bio filter alive. Then you can gradually restock.

Or just quarantine all new fish for a month to a month and a half and use a heavy duty UV at slow flow rate and over filter the main tank it works for me.

Im new to the game and have been reading alot on this forum and like the above post Ive seen a recomendation for a uv filter.

Ive seen a post where the water was green and within 2 days it was crystal clear. Ive been doing the research because my 150 is getting a uv filter. Most are sold with the proper pump for the optimum flow. Good luck
