This is what gives monster fish keepers a bad name

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this happens every second of every day. as we speak someone just bought a 6 inch jag for their brand new 20 gallon that has no heater. sad. you cant go nuts about it but the best thing you could do is keep people informed. try working at petland making attempts to sway people away from making these kind of choices, at times it feels like talking to a 3 year old child about why people die....... same way you may see a 95 pound women who knows nothing about dog training buy a pitbull or rottweiler puppy. you kind of scratch your head and wonder "hows that going to turn out?" meanwhile you know the answer. you try to explain things to people without offending them hoping they get the point...these things happen on a massive scale tho. wants-knowledge+luck ...lol at times its a ticking time bomb. I just feel bad for the animals

Just because you keep a monster fish, doesn't mean you are a monster fish keeper. It goes beyond the fish. It's the care you give said fish that makes you a monster fish keeper.

Yep,been there, done that, got the tee shirt...The shop I used to work at people always wanted far too many or fish that grew far too big for the tanks that they had at the time.I tried to explain to one woman once that it wasn't advisable to keep a saltwater clown fish in a fish bowl but she would hear none of it.Her child wanted Nemo and that was final.

A small inch Oscar would do okay until 6-7 inches and he can switch out again via Craigslist.

Better fate than most oscars sold.

That's how I felt too. If he can constantly and safely rehome fish as they get older it works, but one snag and he may have an unfortunately empty tank.

some adults are like children 2, had a grown ass man come into petland gleaming at our 55 gallon. "I want that fish!" sir that's a texas cichlid that gets a foot long what tank do you intend keeping him in. "30 gallon long with an Oscar and Dempsey" ....sir that tank is too small , dude goes- "so what do you care, what are you in love with these fish" I walk away...facepalm.
