Better cut the rest of the tail so that it will grow as if nothing happened. It will be fully grown in 2 months.

I have never had an aro jump
except the first time i had one, usually because of something that frightens them outside of the tank.
cover the sdies with black paper. and the back

it calms them down.

I hope he heals good for ya...............

This added stress is something the aro surely does not need, now.

Exactly. I'd leave it. The whole ordeal is severely stressful for a fish.

The stress factor is something to take into consideration. But I would wait a bit, let him recover and restart to eat normally, then I would do it. The tail looks pretty damaged, and pretty near to the root. But the fish is pretty young (assuming that based on its size), so his chances are good.

Barbels will regrow, if not broken at the roots, but may be a bit less thick and look more "fragile".

Feel lucky that his pectorals did not break, those are the hardest to grow back.

Go with the usual treatment: good water, a bit of salt, some melafix, lot of aeration.

Good luck bro, and remember that patience is the key. A fish recovery is no big deal for them, the big deal is can the owner look at his injured fish and feel comfortable enough to let it be...

What I was thinking too, looks so straight like it was cut. Good luck anyway though

I had an XB jumped before also, and lost his tail straight cut that way also. I have read that XBs can "shed" their tail under great stress.
