This is what happens when we throw trash in the ocean.............

It's frightening to see how we really treat Mother Earth, most people just don't want to think about it

you are absolutely right.. we need to see sad to realize how much we destroy being careless and carefree.

I spent 2 months of my summer hiking and back packing on the east coast of canada and the west coast aswell. And i couldn't find one remote beach anywhere that didnt have any garbage and crap on it. our garbage and pollution is everywhere

It's obvious to me that those angry birds are responsible for this. If you look closely you'll see beak marks on everything. Clearly took the trash from a good Samaritan's recycling bin

Best troll job ever

As the human race develops, and more countries become wealthier this is only going to get worst before it gets better im afraid...

Just the other day on the news they were talking about how much food and stuff China wastes each year based on customary beliefs...

Such as during wedding banquets they say on average 50% of all food goes un eaten, and how at the current rate that people eat large predatory fish such as blue fin tuna and shark fin that soon enough there wont be any left tipping the eco system...

yes and this really does apply to all trash..same thing when someone tosses something out of the window of their car.. some innocent wildlife who is hungry and on the verge of starvation gobbles it up......

Not a good sight to see. On the plus side, I'm positive it wasn't me. Ever.

I'm afraid that even if you don't throw garbage away at the beach (which is absolutely inhumane anyway), probably some of your household garbage will have ended in the sea at one point or another :(

Midway is located in an area of the Central Pacific that is covered by the "Pacific High". It is a high pressure area that often occurs in the Central Pacific and happens almost every summer. This high pressure area cuts off almost all wind and current. The garbage accumulates from ships going through that toss refuse overboard by the ton, along with flotsam that accumulates from various typhoons in the region along with the tsunami that happened in Japan. The ocean current is like a big toilet bowl there and just keeps going around and around. Some debris eventually makes its way out but the majority of it just keeps circulating, often for years.

I've sailed through the general area on a trip from Hanalei Bay, Kauaii to Glacier Bay Alaska. Even in 1988 there was some stuff floating around, but not like what it is like now. It will continue to accumulate until it gets cleaned up, as a good majority of it is plastic that takes decades and longer to degrade.

Who will go over 2000 miles into the center of the Pacific to clean it up? It is likely no one, which is very sad.
