Good luck with him. I have 5 severums, 2 SD, 1 JD, 4 angels, and a ropefish that are all unwanted rescues.
good luck, I just did samething.
rescuing 4 fish -
2 medium goldfish(I have 10 heated tanks,no cold)
also 2 large belly swelled 3 spot gouramis. (I wouldn't put in same tank)
No FILTER JUST AIR BUBBLER.
The tank was sooo nasty, I put together another empty for them and poured bleach in old tank. before bleach.......
I dug out gravel (by hand)to move along with fish..gagged all the way
through 3" of fish #2.
anyway, gouramis got ick really bad and died 4 days later.
and guess what I still have kicking circles around the tank....yep.....
GOLDISH nice and healthy !

Ya for saving fish boooo for Oscars... when i get a new big tank I am going to get a monster fish that will eat Oscars so something like this wont happen again!!! 
An Oscar is the pit bull of pet fish,meaning it gets bought,put in a small ass apartment,either dies or mauls somthing because of TERRIBLE OWNERSHIP..........

that is just because they are so readily available, and they will eat fish people get them for that reason so when that novelty wares off then they have no use for the fish and they stop taking care of it...
