What filter should I get? (if any)

I've never priced the parts, but I imagine the cost of replacing the motor and impeller will start to approach the price of just buying a new one. I suggest giving it a few days to break in. I was disappointed at the amount of noise coming from mine when I first got it, but they really quiet down after they build up some "slime" on them.

If you're heavily planting then you're not going to want a lot of agitation in the water. Best to stick with the filtration you have I'd say.

Well for 2 new motors and impellers for the 70's its 55.56 plus tax plus shipping charges. hmmm, that might not be the best deal, but what if I coated the shaft with lube?(laughs to myself) Like petroleum jelly or something? Would that harm the fish?
