This may sound crazy, but...

Local fish clubs are actually a treasure chest full of information from hobbyists who moonlight as stand makers for reasonable price depending on what area you are from on wood stands but harder to find welders but can be done you might get lucky and know someone who had a business make it cheap for them. Check those industrial businesses instead of fish hobby centered shops. They can custom make stands for you too.

Welders here in the DC area are $$$$...mebbe if someone has a couple of large acrylic tanks they wanna get rid of. I still have the two 65 gallon Caitec metal stands (one I'm using for Bobo right now). Figure I could use them for a 125 or 130.

I had mine done at the community College welding class. Gave them the drawing with the exact measurements and they hooked me up for basically the cost of materials. It was practical experience for the students.

Okay...

So I have two Caitec metal 65 gallon stands to put together. One is in use right now for Bobo. Each double stand can hold 2 tanks.

So if I put them together am I still in the threshold to go up to a 150 acrylic up top? The numbers seem to say so but I'm not sure. I've already done a measure for the table top...it would be 80" x 19".

Pic of the stand is below: I actually have two in use. Tango's tank in my office is on a Caitec.

I'm going to assume the manufacturer is taking into account glass tanks for that metal stand. You could say 2 x 65g = at most 130g tank with water.... but let's see with tank weight.

So 65 gallon glass tank empty = 126lbs & filled one = 772lbs https://www.thesprucepets.com/aquarium-sizes-and-weights-1380694
(2 x 65g glass tanks on each stand)
Total is 1544lbs

Let's say an acrylic 150g is about 140lbs https://fishtanksdirect.com/tsunami-150-gallon-72lx24wx20h-rectangular-acrylic-aquarium-r150/
So in a glass 150g, the water weight is 1492lbs. (1800lbs-308lbs ... first weblink) (yeah I know the glass and acrylic tanks are different dimensions)
Total is 1892lbs

So I say No based on those rough estimates.

Just realized I fat fingered the total for the acrylic 150g. It should be
1632lbs

It's too close for my comfort

Ah okay...I was using numbers thinking total group weight each tank stand vs total of one tank across span. I've got no investment in being stupid. So F it, i'll probably go with the blocks. Its hard getting straight up dry weights of acrylic vs glass online.

I considered 12 blocks with four caps (to smooth out the height). Would that be enough for 150 or maybe even 180? I really want to get another Oscar to add to the mix. I know the blocks are strong but I'm trying to determine how many to order. 18 inch width works best, 24 I'd have to do some layout change. The tank would be in my office room. So say its a max footprint of 24 x 72.

What I did for the span of a 4 foot tank (55g), 3 columns with the height of 2 cinder blocks (6 total of 18" blocks). It's not high enough for a canister underneath.

What's the layout of the blocks going to look like when you look down from above?

Second plan is the office tank which will have Bobo, one of the Synos, one of the acaras and BP Tango. Might add Oscar down the line. Looking at maximum load if I have to go taller.
