I just read this thread. I got rid of my new pleco because my silver was really mean if it got close, he'd slash it. My previous pleco (spazzz) used to try to suck on my aro, I didn't realize they could hurt the fish. Any pleco is now screwed if he goes into my tank!
I have seen large plecos and large aros coexist without any problems. Keeping a large enough tank helps, and keeping the pleco well fed will help to avoid slime coat suckings. Theres a new word for you all to put in your redneck dictionaries Suckings... I've lived in Idaho way too long.
THIS ROYAL PLECO LOVE THE AROWANA SKIN, LIKE CANDY. I HAD TO TAKE OUT AND PUT THE PLECO IN ANOTHER TANK.!! MY AROWANA BECOME SO STRESS AND DID'T EAT IN 2 DAYS!! . SO BE CAREFULL WITH PLECOS!
My 5 inch Tiger Oscar and 7 inch Pleco always mess with each other....I didn't think much of it since my Oscar can't penetrate the pleco's skin, and the pleco doesn't have any teeth......also they don't stress each other too much.....otherwise I would switch tanks.
For those who had problems with plecos, did you leave plenty of driftwoods for the plecos to nibble on? Especially when it comes to panaques, I would say having woods for them to nibble on will keep them from going after other fish. I have a 11" sailfin with a pair of motoro, 2 black aros, and a silver and they never have any issues with one another.
