This weeks edition of "Who Done It!?!?!"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Negative. Tarpon got moved though. Currently healing up with my smaller Brycon. They seem to really enjoy each other's company.

I personally think Goonch. I didn't notice a slice here and there, doesn't seem to me like it was a bunch of attacks. The tank is in my living room. Not much more then 6 hours go by without someone laying eyes on the tank. Noticed all the damage happened at once. Seems like wayyyy to big of a wound to be the skinny jaws of an ATF.

IF it was the wolf I would think he would have killed the Tarpon. Once wolves get set on something they seem pretty good at following through once it's decided a fish is a meal its as good as dead...... A Goonch with NO tail is going to have a hard time getting a second chance at a meal after the Tarpon was ambushed once, he definitely seemed to have a preference for swimming at the top of the tank vs the bottom after the attack......

Subbed for interesting thread!-)
I say atf, I've kept ode that left similar wounds.

Looking at the top marks, it looks like a single strike. 2 clear gashes tell me its not ATF. ATF have damn near all the same size teeth and sharpness (more gashes would be showing).
I had a pair of curupira in a tank that fought, one killed the other with the same wounds on top.

My money is on the Wolf, I cant see a catfish without the tail to lunge forward fast enough to catch a tarpon.

Glad hes healing up in your tank, if it was mine I think I would of turned the room lights off to watch:p

Totally agree on single bite/strike....

There's a pair of power heads over in the corner behind a hughe piece of driftwood. The Goonch ("Scooter") has found a spot back in there where he lets current just carry food by. The Tarpon was the little guy in the tank at 6". Stock is 1 (11") Wolf 1 (16") Black Aro, 1 (11") Vatf, 2(7") rays, 3 silver dollars (baseball dia), 5 (8-10") Odoe and Scooter is probably close to a foot (without his tail of course) lmao..... BUT he sure can scooch! He's pretty fast for just a pair of pectoral fins...

I can't turn all the lights off cause they flip but I've been carefully observing this tank since I put the Tarpon in there, I knew he was a little small, but he started messing with the Cuda which wasn't gonna happen.

This wolf seems really passive. Not sure what kind it is but it's one of the runty pug nose things..... Doesn't get too big. Sold to me as a "green Lac" but clearly one of the blunt head species..... Small mouth too almost like Gold Wolves. NOT from Wes. Never had any issues in the past with him aside from any kind of wolf I've ever mixed with him beat the crap out of him. He's a weeny in the wolf world.

I think ur wolf was an Australis if I remember right.

I've see other catfish hold on to fish and get rubbed by the mouth in order to turn the fish for swallowing.

Gotta get that camera going and find out!

This is like playing cluedo. I kinda like it ;D
Wolf is unlikely, as said above, it'd be dead by now, my red caught one of my odoes, even when I netted him out, he wouldn't let go... Took quite a bit of risks for my fingers to save the Odoe...
I'd expect ATF to have taken a chunk out, or have much more of the deeper gashes.
I have no experience of Goonches though.

Given the angle, would it be too much of a stretch to add the Aro as a possible culprit? He looks like my first Cichla my silver had caught back in the days... Except size difference was bigger, so it was on the entire body.

It's the goonch, Al. I witness mine did to the peacock bass just the past Monday, and it totally shocked me. 3 peacock bass were killed when I first moved them into my 600, but I never suspected the goonch. I thought it was either the rtgg or the frt. The goonch stayed idle against the front wall of the tank, vertically, head up. When the pbass swam pass it, it darted up so fast, grabbed the pbass side way, and swam to the back corner of the tank in a hurry. Fortunately, the bass is big and still strong to able to get lose when the goonch tried to turn it so that it can swallow the bass from the head. These two goonch I have, have been grown up with mainly pellets from the previous owner, until came in my care, then they get chopped mackerel/fish alternately with pellets. I hardly suspect them, because when I fed my aimara with whole dead mahseer in the past, the goonch didn't join the feeding like other fish (apurensis, aul). I was amazed with the way it hunts, even better than the way my bichirs hunted the ATF, when I introduced the ATF into the bichirs tank. New Monster learning everyday!

And don't under estimate that mouth with the pair of whiskers. It can stretch open very wide, with two sets of razor to lock the prey in place.

Ha ha ha! I knew it....... Thanks for chiming in JL! I knew you probably had some valuable insight!

Goonch are friggin wierd. Not sure about them. Kinda creepy. Unpredictable. May end up being a monster of monsters.... Not sure they can be trusted at all....... Ever.

Kinda glad mine doesn't have a tail, and I bet all the other fish at my house are too......
