Thorichthys and Cryptoheros compatability

Don't get me wrong if the goal is to just trying to keep individuals species of a genus similar to a stamp collection, trial and error will determine whatcan work.
But I'm of the same mind on any cichlid, I would not keep different species of the genus Vieja together in the same tank, or or that matter, different species of the Madagascan genus Paratilpia in the same tank.
At the moment I have 3 species of Archocentrus, all in separate tanks.
This is because my goal is usually spawning, and interbred fish are worthless to me.
And I try not to play favorites, one may be more colorful, but sometimes another with interesting behavior can transcend color.

G gymnogenys sp Paso Pache

G quilero "arroyo yerbailto"

So you think it would be bad idea to keep the four Gymno species I mentioned tigether, (each species in group of of around 4 or 5)?

And if it is a bad idea, is it because they wont get along, or because they may hybridize?

Beautiful pictures by the way!

I believe if there were 4 of the gymnogenys clade kept together, hybridization is a reasonable possibility, especially if some are simply location variants.
Whether or not there would be aggression, I've never tried combining such closely related Gymnos, so just speculation. Females not a worry, but males.
There are frequently posts here, where posters are wondering why there is aggression when different species of Geophagus are attempted together.
A large tank might help, but even in my 1000 gal pond, I see Gymno quilero males squaring off for the affections of females. In the pond there are 4 or 5 males and 10 or so females.
