Just wanted to update this. I picked up 1m/2f to start. I plan to get a few more females when the store gets more. The tank looked mostly male.

Also cichlidfish, what are the tetra looking fish in the background of the second pic?

Those are astyanax bimculatus.

i was going to start an almost identical thread as i am considering getting a group of 6 for my 55g.. all the pics when you google them are very colorful, is that unrealistic or do they commonly get that vibrant?
