I set up a 40B over the weekend using gravel and filter media from my old tank, and I could not be happier with the way it turned out. I used creek sand/gravel and found the driftwood down at the river. The water is still slightly cloudy, but getting better every day but the color seems awfully washed out in pictures. Grr. And I need to fix the placement of the Val on the left. Wish I could have done some real plants, but IME crawfish eat them even if well fed.

In the tank are:

3x juvenile Bluegill for grow out
5x Emerald Shiner
5x Blacknose Dace
2x Banded Killifish
1x crawfish

Thanks!

I had been down to the river about 2 or 3 times already, and hadn't found anything great. Went back again, and found that piece. How I overlooked it the previous times, I will never know. LOL

It is tougher than you think to pick out a piece of stylish DW, unless you pay mega bucks for someone who already did....lol

Very nice setup ....but watch out, many Crayfish are silent killers (they kill fish at night when theyre sleeping).

I've heard that too, but I've found that as long as you keep them well fed, they will leave the fish alone. If this one starts getting too rambunctious, I have a pond she can go live in. Hopefully she will play nice, as I really like watching her explore the tank. Unlike my last one, she comes out quite a bit during the day.
