thought is show off my small tank..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No. i feed the aro small roaches (Shelfordella tartara) in this video. i do use crickets too, plus other live insects like grasshoppers, worms, zophobas. and he also gets fishmeat from time to time.

ok, I thought those didn't look like any crickets, was thinking maybe some kind of roaches.
so you mainly food live insects?

Hmm.. i think about 80% of the food for him is consists of live insects. The last 20% is mainly frozen shrimp and fishmeat.

I also keep reptiles, and im breeding the roaches, so its the cheapest food for him, plus i know, that the animals are not getting anything toxic to eat before they themselves get eaten;-)

Nice looking Gold Aro. :)

That tank (especially the background) looks really really good.

The Aro is also fantastic!

And the fact that compliment for that magnificent Aro comes to mind only after the tank is even more proof of how spectacular that set-up is.

Cheers,
Sid

PS: I had considered "culturing" roaches for my monsters. But, I think my family, friends and loved ones will disown me if I do this... :)

Thanks for the comments:-)
Sidrock: You just need to find the right species;-) Try blaptica dubia roaches, thay are really good feeders, and grows to be fairly large - about 1 1/2 inch for adults. And best of alle, they dont climb galls and other vertical surfaces.

But hey, i see what you mean, my parrents werent exactly thrilled when i started breeding roaches - but i think the risk with them are smaller in Europe because of the cold weather - they simply cant live outside theire boxes for more than a few days.

awesome setup, keepin it true to the fish's habitat. howcome your aro doesnt eat the smaller fish like the barbs?

Adrius:
Well, i guess hes just well fed - but, sometimes he does snack one - mostly a problem, when i introduce new fish - it seems like he accepts them as a part of the enviroment, but if i, for some reason or the othe, forget to feed him one or two days, then its pretty much 100% guaranteed, that he will hunt the small fish:-)

I love your setup. You have a awesome group of fish and I especially like the Royal Plecostomus you got. He's huge! I have a couple of questions. Is that a BTN background or DIY? And how big is your aro? Thanks!
